At 4:32 p.m., Board Chair Kenneth Lanier welcomed all and called the Work Session of the Pender County Board of Education to order.

Penderlea School Update

Chief Operations Officer Darren Lafon introduced Samantha Locklear, the new Metcon Project Manager for Penderlea School, shared an update on the Penderlea School project.

Ms. Locklear presented a milestone timeline, including the school opening on October 8, 2018, sewer hookup on November 3, 2018, and final testing on November 8, 2019. A pump-and-hall truck will run beginning August 8, 2018 and continue to operate while the sewer line is being completed at the expense of Metcon. The sewer line will run through the existing Penderlea School.

Board Attorney Richard Schwartz asked if Metcon would also be taking on other additional fees associated with the delayed timeline of the opening of Penderlea School. Ms. Locklear said that Metcon would be willing to meet and discuss any additional costs that arise due to the delay in the project’s completion.

Brad George requested Ms. Locklear bring any issues that may arise regarding the timeline to the Board’s attention and to keep the Board informed.

Surf City Update

Architect Charles Boney of LS3P shared an update on the water line and sewer line at the Surf City projects.

Final Budget Review

Dr. Blumenreich presented a final review of the district’s proposed 2018 budget.

In a motion made by Rochelle Whiteside, seconded by Brad George, the Board adjourned its Work Session at 5:46 p.m.
