7300-R Staff Responsibilities – Compliance with COVID-19 Guidelines

The Governor of North Carolina has declared a state of emergency, effective March 10, 2020, and has prohibited mass gatherings and ordered school closings. The Pender County School System takes its responsibilities to the health and safety of our community very seriously amid the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Under Pender County Board of Education Policy 1510/4200/7270 – School Safety, staff have a responsibility “for taking reasonable precautions and following established safety measures to create and maintain safe schools.” In addition, under Policy 7300 – Staff Responsibilities, all school employees are to “be familiar with, support, comply with . . . board policies, administrative procedures, school rules and applicable laws.”

Pursuant to the authority given to the Superintendent in Policy 2470 to establish regulations to implement board policies, all employees of the Pender County Schools who are subject to being asked to report to a school site or school property (including buses or other school vehicles) are required to review and sign this Acknowledgement indicating that they have read, understand, and agree to abide by, the following health and safety requirements:

  • I will not gather in groups of more than 10 people whenever possible.
  • I will follow the “Social Distancing Requirements” set out in the Governor’s Executive Order Number 121, by (a) maintaining at least 6 feet of distance from other individuals whenever possible outside of my home, (b) washing my hands using soap and water for at least 20 seconds as frequently as possible or by using hand sanitizer, and (c) regularly cleaning high-touch surfaces.
  • I will sneeze or cough into a tissue or the inside of my elbow.
  • If I contract COVID-19, I will remain at home unless to receive medical care and I will notify the Chief Officer of Human Resources of this fact if I am able to do so.
  • I will follow the guidelines and recommendations of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) as they are developed or as they may change, even if more strict than the requirements listed above.


This administrative regulation shall remain in force until the Governor has declared the end of the current state of emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic, or until rescinded by the Superintendent or the Pender County Board of Education. I hereby certify that I have read and understand this Acknowledgement and understand that my failure to comply with this regulation may result in disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal.
