1340 Board Standing Committees

The Pender County Board of Education  may elect to establish standing committees or assign individual Board Members as contacts for certain areas.  The purpose of standing committees or individual contacts is to conduct thorough deliberations and investigations of these issues and to bring to the Board the results of their deliberations with recommendation for Board action if needed.



Creation of standing committees or Board Member Contacts shall be a function of the Board. Standing committees of the Board or contacts may include: Finance, Curriculum, Personnel, Support, and Administration.


The Chair of each standing committee or the Board Member Contacts shall be named by the Chair of the Board of Education at the first regular meeting in August or as the identified need arises. 


The Committee Chair or Board Member Contacts shall be responsible for reporting to the Board of Education on the activities of the Committee or individual.


The Superintendent shall perform as an ex officio member of all committees and may suggest items for a committee agenda.


The Chair of the Board of Education shall be an ex officio member of all committees.


The contact person for assistance for each standing committee shall be the Superintendent or a staff member designated by the Superintendent to serve as liaison person for that standing committee.


A standing committee or individual contact may only make recommendations to the Board of Education and has no authority to act on behalf of the Board except as may be authorized in policy or specifically granted by the Board.
