At 5:08 p.m., Vice Chair Kenneth Lanier called the Committee of the Whole meeting to order in the absence of Board Chair Katherine Herring.

Update on the Career Technical Education (CTE) Program

At 5:09 p.m., Director of Secondary Education Mary Mortensen presented information regarding SEA-TECH High School, which focuses on career education. SEA-TECH is a partnership with Pender County Schools, New Hanover County Schools and Cape Fear Community College.

At 5:35 p.m., Chief Officer of Auxiliary Services Allen Vann presented information regarding the cost of a logo in the floor at Pender High School. Mr. Vann said it would cost approximately $10,000 to perform the work, according to the contractor. He urged the Board not to incur this expense now, given how tight the budget is, and the Board members concurred.

Penderlea School Tree Removal

At 5:50 p.m., Mr. Vann discussed the sale of trees from Penderlea School as timber. They were specified in the subcontractors contract to become his property and do with what he saw fit.

At 5:51 p.m., Rochelle Whiteside motioned to adjourn the meeting, Brad George seconded, and the meeting was adjourned, to be followed by the regular Board meeting.
