Call to Order

At 10:14 a.m., Board Member Don Hall called the meeting to order after determining a quorum was present.


Approval of the Agenda

At 10:15 a.m., Kenneth Lanier motioned to approve the agenda. Brad George seconded it, and the motion carried.


Closed Session

At 10:16 a.m., a motion was made by Brad George and seconded by Kenneth Lanier to move into closed session, subject to advice from the attorney, pursuant to N.C. General Statute 143-318.11(a)(1), (a)(3), (a)(6), and to consult with the Board’s Attorney in order to preserve the attorney-client privilege. The motion carried.


At 11:25 a.m., the Board resumed its meeting in Open Session.


School Closings/Storm Update


At 11:26 a.m., Superintendent Dr. Terri Cobb shared an update regarding the cancelation of school due to the impact of Hurricane Matthew. Dr. Cobb informed the Board that damage to facilities was minor with no major structural damage. The district is working with Pender County Emergency Management and many other county agencies, with Burgaw Middle School and Malpass Corner Elementary School operating as American Red Cross shelters.


At 11:36 a.m., Kenneth Lanier motioned to adjourn the meeting. Brad George seconded, the Board agreed to adjourn the meeting.
